Well, it was bound to happen. They asked me to design a course, and through
no fault of my own I just happened to get TTOD (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif) . And that was against
even the Cat Super 7 that usually rules if he shows.

So of course I stand accused of making it a 914 course. Even though the closest
other 914 was 3 seconds back. I'm guilty of putting in a nice slalom of 8 cones,
25 paces apart. And I only set up about 80% of the course, a few others put in
a weird part.

Here it is, WMV 10Mb
84.915 seconds. Sorry for the compression, the cones appear out of nowhere (but
not in real life).

Check out the 270 degree pivot cone at the end of the first straight. I thought it
would be cool, and it was, but I couldn't quite get oversteer at that speed so it
felt slow.

I came up with a witty remark that I will use whenever possible. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)

911 guy: " Hey, that's a 914 course! " (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mad.gif)

Me: " Of course it is, it has turns " (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/w00t.gif)

The only time I designed a course, I set a personal worst for the number of cones taken out during a run. I had one tricky slalom where I managed to hit ALL of them. Prior to this course, I'd hit maybe 6 cones total in three years. I hit something like two DOZEN cones in four runs on this course...

Needless to say, I was far from the fastest...

Thanks,
Things here seem to have gotten faster and faster speeds for the last couple
years, so I figured going 45 rather than 65 would be good. And what makes
people slow down a little? Turns. Unless you're in a 914.

It looked like a well designed course from the video. Good flow and really a great job for your first shot. If you have a map, sent it to Roger (SCCA GRU) who will usually give you feedback.

Anytime you have more than 9 or 10 corners on a AutoX course everyone will complain, especially the 911 Porsche or Detroit iron people.

I try to make it 10 or less so that no one complains.

cones DO appear out of nowhere. That's the ones I hit. Nice run really like the two views.
I get accused of scooting cones closer together making boxes tighter. Them V-8 guys really have trouble (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/happy11.gif) The vette guys are usually following me moving them way out and then marking them quickly. So I keep it flat to the floor for the whole course (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/flipa.gif) No worries 914's hitting the 5800 rev limit in 3rd are really cool. swap rotors and it is damn scary.
