As I’m trying to figure out, how the engine cover is supposed to sit correctly, I was wondering, if anyone has a better understanding about this.

According to the parts catalogue, the cover has 2 different hinges: one for each side (P/N 914 512 139 10 and 914 512 140 10).

Does anyone know, what is the difference in the parts? Is it just mirrored or is there a height difference?

When trying to fit the engine cover, the left/front corner is about half an inch lower and I’m trying to figure out if someone has used the wrong part or maybe it’s just bent? I did try to bend it upwards and that did get the cover to be flush with the rest of the body, but then it moved a bit towards the rear of the car and something still doesn’t quite fit right.

Yeah, those things have taken decades of abuse and are often bent and poorly repaired. The best solution would be to replace both hinges with new brackets welded to the firewall correctly. At the same time, I would check the rear trunk hinge attachments to make sure they are welded and secure. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
