I'm looking for recommendations for engine and transmission rebuild shops near the Albany New York area. Willing to go up to 150 miles from Albany for help. Additional question, I am not an experience mechanic but did buy a copy of Dr Evils transmission rebuild videos. He makes this look doable. I this a project that someone with limited experience would be able to pull off?

Thanks!

It's all about money versus time regarding the trans. I was able to purchase over time, some of the needed tools to overhaul a trans, but it was easier to buy a trashcan at Walmart and ship the trans to Dr. Evil. He has an extensive collection of used parts and can save you money. He also changed 3rd, 4th and 5th for my v8 conversion. I couldn't be happier with the trans and gear selection.

Mark at Exotech in Plaistow, NH. He's done a ton of transmissions, has the factory jigs, and is going through my 915 with Martin's kit on it right now. 603-382-3599. Tell him Matt told you to call.

Thanks for the info. It's a big help. Any suggestions on engine rebuilds?

Not on the east coast. We have FAT performance on the west coast and others. Even Empi is selling long blocks here now.

Well if you are in Albany, you must have heard of Rick Dobush, the Bavarian Rocket Scientist.

There is also Cantech on the north side of Syracuse. They might be worth a look see.

For the most part, you will do fine to do the transmission yourself unless it is really needing some major overhaul which would then necessitate that you have pinion and ring gear re-set. I spend a lot of time offering free tech advice all around the globe, and ship parts as needed. Dont be shy about hitting me up for info or guidance. I, of course, also do plenty of rebuilds on a weekly basis so that is an option as well.

Mark too. He did my -4 the last time. It's a 2270, lots of head work, etc. He does all the head work in house. He's done everything from 356 motors to 996 stuff.

My service capacity is limited to occasional installation of my products. No more general service work or engine building available here. Nearly all my time is occupied with manufacturing production now.
