Any tips for cleaning possibly etched windshield glass? I tried the usual glass cleaner and rags, no luck. Not sure how deep it goes or if it is just hard water spots.

It wouldn't polish out DA scratch marks but, it did polish out light scratches and REALLY cleaned up the glass nicely.
It makes a mess but did the job advertised.

They can be polished out. I went and looked, there are windshield "chip repair" companies. People saying "It looks brand new" . Cerium Oxide as mentioned above was what glass companies used to polish the edges of architectural glass I used to install. It comes out nice

Rouge is the typical glass polish

New windshield

cerium oxide and other products are out there, but in our experience (40+ years) nothing will give the results you would be looking for.

New is out of the question for this 10 footer. The spots are just outside the wiper line and I cannot feel them with my finger or finger nail.

Hard water spots? Use vinegar (acetic acid IIRC).

You might try Weiman Cook Top cleaner. It is for glass cook tops. Contains citric acid, I believe. Maybe best to test in a hidden space first? Perhaps the bottom of the side window glass where is sits below the rubber scrapers ...

I'll try that. I like their other products.

What I have tried so far;
Cleaned with a non ammonia glass cleaner.
Clay bar just to get micro grit off. I had an unused one.
Vinegar, not sure how old or strong it was, no change.
Had some water spot remover, no luck.
On to other products. Sounds like I need to get some grit, like other have suggested.
Maybe 0000 steel wool in a hidden area.
I'll try a search for the other post.

With anything like this you need to grind the plane of the surface below that of the scratch depth. I have had great luck with the cerium oxide kits. They make a mess and polish the glass. But that is for light work, like polishing away haze from etching. You might be able to approach this with diamond grits of varying grades if the scratches are pretty deep. On your own with that approach I am afraid.

I suppose how well do you want to see? For me, I like my windshield as perfect as I can get it. My local auto glass guy did a new one for me last year, $350. total
