Due to circumstances beyond my control my 914 is going to have to spend our upcoming Utah Winter OUTSIDE. As you can imagine this is a bitter pill to swallow. I have done some research but am having trouble finding a suitable Outdoor All Season Car Cover for my pride and joy. I am hoping that there may be a few of you who have had experience with this and can offer some guidance. Please and thank you in advance.

Outdoor close fitting covers, especially in your snowy climate (if you're in the hills - i've skied Snowbird and the snow fall was phenomenal !) will always be a compromise and wont really minimise rust/corrosion long term and however breathable the fabric, will always 'sweat' to some extent. Although not a perfect solution, an inflatable car bubble will be the way to go especially if you can get some air flow through it with a fan. Just give a thought too to snow build up on the cover which will cause it to sink if you dont clear it off regularly. Good luck! |

I went this route for several years until i got my shop space setup |

Car cover, then plastic sheet cover, then waterproof car cover.
Take it all off when you get a sunny day to remove condensation. It will be fine, just a bit more time to invest in keeping moisture from building up. |

Whatever car cover you decide on, monitor for moisture underneath and air out on sunny days. Park the car over concrete if possible, bare ground will become saturated when it rains and increase moisture under the car. If you can put up a car canopy to keep direct sun and rain off of the car, that will help. And, monitor for rodents, where I live they like to get up into engine compartments.
If the inflatable car bubble idea means outside moist air would be pumped into the bubble to keep it inflated, that can't be good. I've been looking for inexpensive garage space to rent for awhile. It must be out there, but like the unicorn, it's elusive. |

Use an air dryer. I've used these, but you will need to change them out every so often. I did so about every 5 weeks.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Humydry-3-Pack-H...ectedSellerId=0 Just make sure you check on them and I hung off my steering wheel with a bucket underneath as the water will definitely promote rust due to the way it was absorbed. |
