The restoration of my 914-6 is moving along well. The car has steel flared fenders and a set of Fuchs 6x15 will be installed, but I believe I need some spacers to move the wheels outward a bit.

I believe M471 cars used 6x15" wheels and 21mm spacers, am I correct?

I also need longer wheel studs, what is adequate for a 21mm spacer, a 70mm stud?

Thanks

Henry

I used the 21mm spacers and studs off the rear of an early 944. I think they are 80mm but not sure at this time.

I'd put something wider than 6" on a flared car, or what's the purpose. And if you're not into exact replica I'd do 16" for the shorter sidewall and tire choices. 205/55-16 is stock Boxster fronts and a very common size.

I have a factory 6. It had 16” Fuchs when I bought it. I added the steel flares. I have front wheels 7x16, tires 225/45
74mm studs 21mm 944 spacers

@HDC

I have the spacers and maybe the studs.
But why flare and only go 6"?
Those will git without flares.

On my GT project with steel flares we are planning on 15X7 fronts and 15X9 in the rear.

Thanks for the comments on the 6" wheels, I also have a set of 7"x15 and a 7"x16. I will try those on for size. I think I like the 15s more than the 16s, because the 16s are all black

My current studs are 45mm long, so if I add 21mm spacers, I should be OK with 66mm studs?

I have seen the spacers from 944s, those are 21mm, and plenty of availability. I might g with those

Thanks again

Henry

After years of juggling different sets of wheel spacers and wheel studs for different sets of wheels (AX, track, street) i finally had enough and added 100mm wheel studs on all 4 corners.

Now i have one set of spacers for the street and one set of spacers for track/AX.
Easy to swap around when needed.

I never looked back ...

Yup, I'am with Bruce Stone, Why. Flared fender are meant for larger tires/ Performance.

More rolling resistance. More expensive tires. Not a stock size, or won't fit a stock wheel. Maybe harder to find. There are lots of reasons.

If you have a relatively stock 4, six inch wheels will probably give you a better driving experience than 7 & 8’s with wide rubber.

One other reason is that the flares were in the car when I bought it, and I'm trying to use one of the wheel sets I already have instead of buying a new set. This is how the car looked with the 7x15 before going to the body shop.
