Hello, needing a compact spare for my 914 six with flares. Currently, I’m running 15 inch wheels but I think in a pinch this could work. I think my rears are 225/ 60 17. Front 195 65 15 Pirelli cn36.

See pictures for rim and Tire six. To get me out of the boonies and back to civilization do you think this wheel would work?

Very reasonably priced under 100 bucks and basically new.

Looks like an ET 10 for this wheel.
I’m running 7x 15 upfront with a 21 mm spacer and 8x 15 in the rear with no spacer. Have Boxster brakes

Yes it will work,

5.5 wide wheel, take a pump with you and it should not be an issue as far as scraping.

I agree. I have a collapsable spare in my trunk and I have one of the Porsche electric pumps to inflate it. That reminds me, I need to keep my tool bag with the pump in the car... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Remember, you can install laying flat in the front, or against the divider between 'frunk' and gas-tank, as well as in the rear-trunk. I didn't know this for the longest time, so mentioning it wherever I can. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif)

@burton73
@cairo94507
@sb914
@RiqueMar

Thanks ya'll for the the feeback. Going Cairo style with the wheel storage- frunk mounted on the wall at the gas tank vertically. Will this fit mine Cairo?
With the tire flat, is the diameter of the compact spare much smaller than a common 15" wheel/ tire combo? I'd guess so otherwise whats the point....

I'm replacing my funky front oil cooler shroud with a proper Getty 914-6 shroud with the goal of having the space for the compact spare up front.

Wheel...no problems with the backspacing for both front and back I hope...

I'll go for it...the price is right.

@roundtwo - Let me measure mine and take a couple photos this morning. But, I believe it should easily fit height wise. My concern is making sure the cooler shroud does not extend back so far towards the gas tank that the tire sits on the shroud. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I am going to say this again.

The collapsible spare tires look great and save on trunk space. But remember, they are at a minimum of 20 to 25 years old. That means they are dry rotted, and when you try to inflate them, those folds are going to crack and split. Been there,done that. Don't count on being able to run it when you need it.

IF you can find a place that makes new ones, have it replaced. Otherwise get a 16 inch donut spare from a Boxster. It doesn't require a pump, and it will be there when you need it.

Otherwise carry your AAA card with you.

Agreed, that the money spot. The shroud taper is pretty thin as it approaches the tank area. Thanks for the tech support! oh...did you buy your wheel mount premade and then weld it the the tank wall bulkhead?

@clayperrine

Good points Clay.... needs pump = minus 1 point. old rubber = minus 1 point. AAA= can be minus 1 point in the areas I drive as they're pretty remote at times. self rescue important

@roundtwo
My factory 6 with front oil cooling and a 16in x 6in factory Fuchs and spacesaver. You can see how much space that there is above the tire to the top of the wall in front of the gas tank. This should give you a good idea of the fit.

From what I can see, that looks like the one I have. It is a match in rolling diameter for a 16 inch wheel.

I have no issues with the offset, but I have flares on my car.

I have the boxster spare laying flat in the front trunk. Remember the spare tire is part of the crash protection.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) well said ,I have a boxster one and its laying flat and will stay that way ,the other consideration is uprated calipers can cause issues clearance wise , the 996 rim covers that.
Clay is right about the tires ,my tire fully expanded had very minor cracks and TBO wouldn't trust it ,would like a better solution for an inflatable type then I don't need my pump ,see how I go on that.

@roundtwo - Here are a few of the way my spare fits. I likely would not try to run it... I have a AAA card with 200 miles of towing.

I’ll start by saying I had a space save spare in my 3.6 teener, so I’m guilty as the next. All these installs look great, but what do you with the full size once you’ve replaced it with the space saver? Some space saver installs I’ve seen won’t allow a full size wheel tire to fit in the trunk and some flared car wheels are too wide to fit in the rear trunk.

Heavy duty contractor trash bag and sit it on the passenger lap if you have to.
