70-73 1.7L without the appearance group package.
I parted out a blue 72 years ago. It was a grey market car and was breaking in two. It had black trimwork. I don't know if that was stock or not. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) Never seen anything like this before, what year? This seems like how a prototype would be constructed, before any brightwork is added for marketing. I’ve seen the punch weld push on trim on two cars. Done by the owners, not the factory. Not the worst look in the world but not great.

What years was the sail panel trim painted to match the body color? as far as i can work out. 70 and 71 for sure. bumpers were the same. but thats not to say someone could have optioned chrome bumpers. but no vinyl on sail panel with say a chrome trim. i dunno enough about just what all the ins and outs were. but, broadly speaking a base trim car was body colored bumpers and targa trim. and definitely from 73 it went to black bumpers and black trim as the base spec. for both 1.7 and 2.0. no more body colored combo. as far as i am aware all 74 for USA got the vinyl and chrome targa bars, with either black bumper or chrome depending on box you ticked. no targa bar without vinyl for any of them unless it was a "can am". but in europe you could still do the targa vinyl delete with black targa trim. and i have a feeling it stayed that way for both USA and europe for 75. 72 i don't know about. whether they stayed with body color or went to black like 73. |

70-72 non appearance group with body colored bumpers and no side vinyl
73 with no side vinyl and black bumpers had black roll bar trim including the limited edition models 70-73 1.7L without the appearance group package. I parted out a blue 72 years ago. It was a grey market car and was breaking in two. It had black trimwork. I don't know if that was stock or not. |

What is this ?? Has Fuchs,,street tires its got lemmertz sport wheels (star steelies). i'd say its a 74 given the wheels and front bumper tits. steelies at the autocross could be a 2.0. they came with star steelies in base trim in 74. the sail panels won't tell you anything about the spec of a 74. star steelies were 5.5. would have taken the same tyre any fuchs rim took. you could tick the box on sway bars too. i have a 74 base trim 1.8 with star steelies. but the original owner ticked the box for factory sway bars. clever buyer. its pretty tidy compared to a car without them. be a handy little rig around the autocross back in the day. just drive in off the street and have some fun. even just for embarassing some of those rigs lined up behind it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) i notice a beetle in the background of that shot. that would have been a handful autocrossing........and also a lot of fun.
