My '75 1.8 has developed a vibration when in 5th gear. All other forward gears and reverse work just fine. Am I looking at tearing the trans apart or maybe a CV joint?
Thanks. George |

Is the vibration constant at various RPMs ? Does it dissipate at say 4K ?

Seems constant under constant load plus accel & decel. Coasting it goes away. Also goes away when I downshift into 4th.

Any ideas, folks? I'm really baffled about this and don't want to tear out the trans unless I have to.

If you find a bad one problem solved, if not you know where you need to look next and the axles are already out of the way. I hope it is a bad CV. |

Thanks everyone. Once the temps get below the high-90s here in Virginia, I'll slide under the car and take a look.
