Anyone know of a good place that has alternators for the 914?

every place I have checked doesn't have them.

I took mine to get it rebuilt and the guys said the internals we so old and in bad shape it wasn't rebuildable.

did this look like a good quality part? vs. an OE Bosch?
Any issues with work arounds on installing it or was it pretty much plug and paly?

I find it hard to imagine it's not rebuildable, unless you've been using it a a boat anchor in salt water. After all, it's highly unlikely anyone is making new ones any more.

These guys told me they could rebuild mine:

Last one I had done by a crusty old guy in New Hampshire and it was most excellent. If the above won't work I can find his info.

Cars245 seem to have a supply. Shipping from Europe may be a problem.

while I am shopping

is the voltage regulator internal in the alternator or external?

Should I replace the voltage regulator while doing the alternator?

It looks just like the old Bosch one and bolted right in, no issues. It replaced a Bosch alternator that sat on a shelf for ~20 years, then died after about 2 miles of runtime. So - mileage-wise, it's been significantly more reliable than Bosch.
