Time to figure out my braking system. I have two old and crusty rear pressure regulators. I'm going to tear them down and refurbish one. I noticed that their adjuster screws are set at different depths.

Is there a way to determine proper preload?

“Just to close this out, I emailed PMB about setting the regulator or sending it in to have them do it. I got an email from the man himself saying that if I didn't have a gauge and hydraulic pump, I could just adjust the adjuster so it protrudes 10mm out of the spring housing as that's close to where they all seem to be set from the factory.

I'm going to take it to the local European car specialist that does most of the German car work around here and see it they can set it. If not, I'll just follow Eric's suggestion.”

I measured both of my adjustment screws and one is 10mm and the other is 12mm.

George, this ist what the manual said.
Use only a good working or refurbished one.
If you use big brakes you will use different caliper sizes and won't need ist anyway.

I find this graph on post #40 of interest for what the you are hoping to achieve. But as mentioneed, one would need a way to put pressure on the valve and meaure it with a gauge to dial in the graph numbers.
