been a busy couple of weeks down here at the north antarctica bull (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) research station.

feeling inspired in the middle of blizzard conditions (man its unusually cold for down here) we dug out my mates piece of history that had been trapped in the back corner by various bits of obsolete e-waste and broken 60s failed avante garde furniture.

got a bit of color co-ordinated garage ornamentation happening.

gradually getting this joint sorted at floor level.
been some interesting bits of rolling but faded last century euro status symbols in the door and out. feeling a bit sick of looking at smart alec crowded engine bays.
someone needs to bring 7 litres of detroit iron in here for a bit of variety. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

a little antarctican air cooled esoteric nonsense.
i'm on to one of these. but the asking price is a little steep at present so i've gone frostbitten on interest and enthusiasm.

australian 1976 beetle. fairly unique one year only last gasp of the kafer before the japanese toyota san and mazda san gave VW the samuria sword through the shoulder.

whats so you-neek you ask? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
for whatever reason these things were some kind of aus only factory cut and shut.
super beetle rear end right down to the 1600 engine and camel toe tailights.
and the earlier torsion bar front end (no macpherson strut bloated nose) - for the very very last of them.
indicators in the bumper and vertical style spare in the front trunk.

also the ONLY beetle anywhere to have had an actual B E E T L E badge on it.
see back engine lid.
and no VW badge anywhere except on the hub caps. the example above likely has a replacement front trunk lid on it.

i've found a white one with a white interior. thats shockingly original and basically unrestored.
but its just too much $.
i think the white wall tyres and split window zombies have finally clocked on to these.
they have been turning their noses up at super beetles for years but............

Orange and black is a good combo and I agree, the 911 has aged well.

its wearing an approximation of its last livery.
not sure when its racing career formally ended.
sometime before 1980. my mate has had it since.
it is black paint. orange and sponsor decals were done in wrap for a rennsport event 10 years ago.

i have a memory of the car from when i was a spring chicken kid.
was in all the shell adverts in magazines.
kind of nice the 914 is now parked just behind it.

Attached Image

it went through a lot of development during the 1970s.
repeatedly it and a couple of other 911s in the touring car class were banned/outlawed and otherwise prohibited by CAMS. the driver/owners kept moving classes and modding them until they finally came to the end of their competitive lives which lasted about a decade.

some-one runs a kind of replica of it in original 1970 form these days in historics.

its pretty much in the condition when it was retired from racing back in time.
