Any reason that a smog pulley off the fan hub of a late 914 wouldn't work as the pulley to power a modern A/C compressor?

its rubber mounted... many of them are failing now with age.

I'm not sure if the rubber and leverage of the extension would handle a heavy load..

assuming the A/C system would take more HP and more load than the small smog pump does on a stock system.

Classic Auto Air has a 912E kit. Note the pieces that they use to fit the pully to the front of the fan. No sacrificial rubber piece. A smart guy could have these pieces fabricated and make something work.

Yes BUT most of the rubber hubs are trash. Have to make sure you have a good one.

@914Sixer

Yeah the factory parts are all wasted to speak of, but these parts are just metal, there is no sacrificial rubber on it. Just have to worry about what would happen if you're compressor froze

I've never seen a smog pulley in person - So is there a bearing where the "arms" converge (that the shaft runs through)? If so, can that bearing be changed out for renewal?

Regarding the worn out rubber piece.. seems like it would be a simple thing to have one machined out of steel/aluminum(?) - think that would work for using it as a compressor pulley?

I hadn't considered the diameter of the smog pulley vs an A/C pulley, that I need to look into.
