As much as we all hate oil threads... here's an oil thread.
What's the latest on race oil for a 4 cyl. Mine's dry sump, dual coolers pretty heavily built 2.6L It holds roughly 10 qts all told.
I've used Amsoil racing in the past, but it's gotten $$$$$.
Locally I can get most of the LiquiMoly products. I've run that in my (street) 911 and it's quieter and leaks less.
I've also run the Brad Penn products, which are now called something else. I can also get that locally.
Many like VR1. I've never tried it.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Oh boy...here we go.

You want ZDDP. And with 10qts (mine's 9) and consistent changes, you also want to be economical.

Find a ZDDP chart for your fav oils and compare. You're looking for ~1200ppm ZDDP or better. I suggest significantly more than that is wasted, especially with consistent oil changes (I do mine every other race weekend).

I use VR-1, Chevron DELO, Mobil Delvac, new Shell Rotella T (did he just mention diesel oils? Why, yes, I think he did...)

I'm not gonna argue with The True Believers because they know I'm wrong.

VR1, but trying motul classic performance per my mech recco on my 3.4, I’m trying to find one type for all my cars so I can grab a can and go, not worry about stocking different types for different cars.

Oh and BTW if you haven’t checked it out yet, do the math on fcp euros return policy, buy the 1st oil change kit, then every subsequent you send back the used oil, filter, etc for a full refund… you end up paying shipping ($30 or so for 10qts oil). But when I’m changing oil on 3 cars annually, more so on the track car.. it gets rid of the old oil and filter and is super cost effective for good oil…

THanks all. I'll give VR1 a go. I can get it easily locally. Sometimes OReilleys has promos too.

I recently switched to VR1 on the advice of an engine builder I trust. It was for a 944 race engine, but I'll be using it in my 911 race engine as well.

For my six I have used used Delo, Henry at Super Tech raves about it. They stopped selling it in CA, so I have tried Mobil, VR1 and Brad Penn. I like VR1 the most, plus a local engine builder also recommends it. Better oil pressure with VR1, I was told the older engines were not designed for synthetic oils, IDK.
