So.... After 40+ years the fiberglass is separating from the metal, in a stable way. It never gets any worse than it is shown below (5 years of owning the car) but there isn't any easy way for me to 'correct' this without a deep dive I don't have time for (vintage grand prix at the Glen on September 5th). I was just going to accept the cracks but I began to think about stickers. I was thinking a couple mobil pegasus on the front fenders (I use mobil1) but the rear quarter have me stumped. What would work with my blue grey paint? Something nodding to karmann or onsnabrook or the 914 but it needs to cover the issues.

I don't want to plaster Porsche stickers on it. I want it to be interesting. Suggestions? I suspect 4 inches wide would be optimal. Length would depend on the design.

I know it's hard to see some of the issues in the photos but I wanted to give some perspective for the kind of area the sticker would be in.

Patina is more interesting than stickers IMHO.

I’ve always liked the Sunoco logo. I think it would look good on blue & silver.

You can find different sizes all over places like EBay.

Ask a competent body shop. However, don't think putting stickers over the cracks will keep the cracks from showing through.

Consider fixing the fiberglass, cracks, and making the surface flat. Then one big sticker (vinyl wrap) maybe? If you don't fix the car's body/surface, the imperfections are going to show in the vinyl wrap. Also, the cracks will just get worse.

I don't want to spend any real money and fixing this kind of thing means major body work. Bringing it back down to original metal, cleaning it all, separating it, bonding it back together. Nothing a chalon is worth. I can make this ridge do away but I can't make the seam visually disappear. So why not sticker? It's a chalon!

If I were going to invest that kind of money in a 73 2.0 it would be returning it to stock.

Oh, come on. You really should bring that Mitcom Chalon back to all the glory it came with when new. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

You know they're getting rarer every year.

Imperfections in the paint, such as cracks and rock chips, will show through under the new stickers applied on top of them.

Yes, but the sticker will be distracting. And I am not looking for perfection. It's a chalon.

Maybe some accent stripes (blue on silver) in just the right places?

Very interesting. A bit much though. Didn't really consider the peelable paint.
