When installing the windshield Ian Kars' video states 5/16" and AA states 1/4"

Which is correct? Or what have you guys used?

nope 5/16ths


years ago with the some of the ill fitting windshields we had to go down in the width of the buytl, hence the 1/4. However with today's windshields 5/16 will do it

As usual, George is spot on. The newer budget windshields are thinner so definitely the 5/16” works better.

The trick is that the butyl needs to be thick enough to contact the glass all the way around, but not so thick that the glass sits too proud of the frame for the windshield trim to fit.

The butyl rolls can vary in diameter. We had an installer come out and found what was marked as 5/16 was closer to 1/4.
Also be careful as you install the bully to not stretch it.

Years ago I was the night manager at a factory that made the butyl rools. They were made with an extruder feeding onto a vacuum bekt. The size was controlled by the belt and extruder speed. Had to constantly monitor the size.
