Are rear brake dust shields for six and four the same?
Painted or zinc plated?
Seem to recall fronts are plated and rears painted but trying to verify.
Thanks

Good that you asked this now - I posted the same basic question in my thread further down, but it probably got buried...

AFAICT, from the parts manual, there are two different parts listed for the /4 and the /6.

Attached Image

The /6 part having a 901 (Porsche) part number, and the /4 part having a 914 part number. I don't know what the physical difference is, or which ones are actually on my car. Note that the /6 rotors are 4mm larger in diameter then the /4 rotors - that might be part of the difference. Or maybe the cutouts for the calipers are different... No idea.

My backplates are painted in any case, but so are the calipers... which are /4 calipers being used with a /6 rotor.

Are you sure Mark? If so, please add the correct info to the Parts Vault.

I went down this rabbit hole a couple years ago. I am far from an expert, but research lead me to a different conclusion. I thought the -6 were larger diameter than -4 and the early ones at least yellow cad.

I don't want to be a contributor to misinformation...

What I learned I put in the post in the parts vault: 901.352.801.201, Protective Plate - Disc brake rear 914-6 . It appeared to me the -6 was ~308 mm.

I pulled that dust shield off our factory 914-6. That said, the car has some modifications so it's possible it was replaced at one time. I don't think so though. They fit the stock rotors quite well. They were very rough, so hard to tell what the original finish was.

I do recall a thread where this was discussed in depth, and had photos. The six shield is larger, and the four shield will fit inside the six part with some clearance. I think there may have been other detail differences such as change in the radius of the lip bend.

I am not going to say I am even remotely correct. The reason being that Karmann always had different suppliers through the production run. It has been well documented that different parts showed up in other coating configurations than Dave's picture shows it to be black.
