As i continue my quest for correct 914 info prior to the start of my restoration, this one is puzzling me. What is the correct alignment of the door handle aperture with the corresponding one on the rear quarter.?
Here is two pictures of an original 21,000 mile six that is advertised for sale at the moment. Should the bottom line up or the top.? Looks a little odd to me, are the two indentations not the same size from factory ? Your experienced thoughts please gents. Many thanks Dave ![]() |

Looks like the right picture is missing the rubber under the handle.

Alignments and gaps aren’t particularly strong suits for our cars.

The door looks a little low. Can you post a pic square to the door from ten feet away ? |

I would think that the more important alignment is the top of door to the top of rear (fender). Drivers door looks low… |

That car is pretty special and the dealer has a talent for finding such things. Special prices too. The door may need adjustment. The side pictures aren't conclusive. |

they always vary, built by vw. Door latch seals are missing from the bottom pic

also left and right flap curvature are different but will interchange, so that would make the alignment different if they were switched side to side

I saw the car about two weeks ago when I visited the seller for a different matter. Beautiful car. Looked as new as any 914 I've ever seen. I wasn't looking to nitpick the car and I had no idea he was selling. It was just nice to see a car that looked as close to factory new as I could imagine.

My understanding is mid production run for the '71's they switched to the newer style rear bumper. This car was a May '71 build and therefore would have received the later bumper. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
