The heat exchanger jackets on my exhaust are rusted and loose while the exhaust pipes seem fine. I'm thinking of just removing them with a cutoff wheel to eliminate the rattling. The heater valves are 53 years old and work about as well as you would think. Don't really need them here in SoCal. Is there a cap for the cooling fan outlets to the heat exchangers or do I need to fabricate something? If I can contain that cooling airflow, I would imagine that the engine cooling will be a bit more effective.

Yes, you can eliminate the heater system in it's entirety, but you may be giving up the window defogging on cool mornings.
There are hinged flaps of the fan shroud outlet ports, but a better solution should be devised to block permanently. Also remember to cap the tubes running in the longitudinals to keep critters from entering. |

I have capped the long tubes from the engine compartment with spray paint caps... some are PERFECT fits and reversible if you ever want heat in the future..then just pull all the other equipment as little as much as you feel

Contrairy to the general belief, closing those outlets on the fan housing would actually decrease the volume of air to the engine because you would change the shroud's internal airflow and efficiency.
This is a comment I read from Jake Raby a while back and is based on a test he did. I will try to find his quote on the topic... EDIT: Here is what AI provided. ![]() |

I had suspected that this could be an issue. I wonder if Raby addressed how one could smooth the flow out in the fan housing to address this. Further research required!!! I had already capped the longitudinal ducts with spray can caps. Great idea! |
