Working on engine of 2.0 914. Questions: In Arizona, are there any shops that can inline bore the case and deck? I have good cylinders, little wear, Appears they can be bored and honed. Is there a shop that can still bore and hone cylinders, 94mm to 96mm? After reading posts, best to go with my old VW cylinders? Also understand a torque plate is needed to the job correctly? Thank you in advance, located in southeastern Arizona. Mr.Vman

I have not personally been in for machine work... but Racer's Edge (Tucson) seems to get very good reviews.

Not sure on case inline bore yet. Also need to check decks, see if needs decking. I guess the deck sinks? Engine only has, 80,000 miles. No cracked heads, or worn cylinders. Reading all kinds of posts. Seems all T4s need inline boring regardless? No rasied edges on bearing saddles, could not fell any indentations on saddles. There is a faint imprint of bearing numbers on saddles. bearings looked good. Problem was crankshaft thrust. Rear thrust bearing worn thin, but rear bulkhead measured, a little over 22mm wide. Not sure where this is going yet. Thanks for the information.

Not sure where this is going yet. Thanks for the information. Might want to check the crank clearance(s). Fit the bearings with some Plasti Gage. It will give you a rough guide. Assuming you have decent bearing clearance, refit the crank and see how the crank spins. If your main bearing clearance is close and the crank spins ok, the case bores are close. All this is assuming the case bolts and torqued Many of these engines go and go and go assuming they are not driven hard, run out of oil or overheated |
