Hello,what model Weber carbs were used on the 76' 914 2.0lt engine? I can't find anything but "Weber' on the casting. Thanks

Carbs were never standard to any 914/4 US cars.

Many original Bosch fuel injection cars have been converted to twin Weber carbs over the years, generally 40IDF was the carb of choice

The Hawk is right! A common set up is a single progressive 2 barrel where the original FI plenum was mounted (centered over engine). This set up is a performance DECREASE over the original fuel injection but dead simple to work on and tune. The "normal" performance carb set up is two 2 barrel down draft set up. You end up with a single barrel feeding only one cylinder (ITB) and you have 4 individual carburetors feeding the engine. The "proper" Weber for a near stock to medium modified 76 2.0l would be the 40IDF. Most come stock with 32mm venturis and those don't work well unless the engine is highly modified and/or run at higher RPM (track car). A good starting base for a stock/mild 2.0L would be a 40 IDF with 27-28mm venturis, 130 mains, 200 airs, and 50-55 idles. To work well, this set up usually requires ignition system improvements. The 123 distributors are an easy button. The ITB set up is harder to tune and the base engine needs to have good compression and leak down readings across all cylinders. The center progressive set up HIDES differences between cylinders and the IDF set up AMPLIFIES differences. Most Weber carbs have their identifying markings stamped into the base of the casting just above where they mount on the manifolds. Sometimes the stampings are vague or very light. |

Right after I posted , I measured the throttle plate bore and found it was 40mm. Then saw what looked like a faint number on the mounting flange,wire brush and 40 IDF 70 8K. |
