I think I know the general response, but I’ll ask anyway.
Putting a 3.0 performance built (premium pump gas) into the 914.
No intention of racing. Maybe an auto cross or track night, or terrorize the neighborhood, but mostly C&C and PCA events.
No heat exchangers ( So.Cal), an oversized oil tank in the engine bay, and a 916-6 type engine lid.
In lieu of a remote oil cooler I was considering changing the fresh air fan piping to blow back through the heater longs up through the tins and outlet right next to the engine cooling fan inlet space. Or possibly just blow on either side of motor below the tins.
I’m wondering if this has ever been done successfully or if the idea makes any sense at all? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated

The heater fan is really an insignificant amount of air

The -6 engine fan is likely 10x the amount of air already

I don’t think it will help to any noticeable amount

If the car/engine runs cool (low rpm) you may be fine without an aux cooler. If the oil runs warm you won’t. Some do. Usually depends on the amount of wear the motor already has or how it’s used-rpm

The fresh air fan hardly moves any air in the cabin. It's not going to do anything to cool the engine.

Are you ever going to be going up a hill on a hot day? Stopped at a light for a while or stuck in a traffic jam on the road with the asphalt radiating heat up into the car.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) both the above are correct

You cannot offset oil cooling with more air cooling.

The primary reason being the heat transfer coefficient of air is (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) compared to oil. Oil cooling is about 10x more efficient than air cooling. This is why the 911 engine has an oil cooler in the first place and why all the S performance variants ran an aux cooler in addition to the engine mounted oil cooler.

Though the engine is called air cooled, it is heavily cooled by oil in addition to the cooling done by fan.
