Well, I made the mistake of picking up at HotVW's magazine this week. I was impressed to see how much power and options the VW crew has when it comes to engines and even trannies.
S6 then I got to thinking. How much different is the VW transaxle to the 901/914 transaxle? Has anyone done it? What are the pros and cons? Thanks for your input. Carlos |

emm well,
cons: - they're 4 speed (5 speed kits are available) - you have to flip the dif - you have to addapt shift linkage, they're "tailshifters" - special hi torque boxes are still expensive pro's - can't really think of any, well not for putting them into a teener it's probably a lot cheaper and easier to stick with the standard 901 box and do some upgrades on it. Mendeola decided the stock VW Transaxles weren't cutting it for baja racing. He grapped a Ford 9" Differential, a bus transaxle, and sent them out on a "date".
Here are his creations... certainly much much stronger than anything Porsche or VW ever dreamed of.. http://www.transworks.biz/mendeola.html |

You're going backward.. Many VW owners use the 901 gearbox for serious installs of power..
All those shiny ads are hype in the VW scene- thats the reason I'm in business, guys get tired of the glossy ads that promise the moon and stars but deliver a box of space junk from China... |
