well i just HAD to drive er to work today ( rain and all ) to show the folks at work i wasnt kidding when i said i was gettin a porsche
its a tight little package ill say that, and when im all done with her shes gonna be one FUN ride! steering takes gettin used to - is like instant - need softer shocks- like lee trevino says" you can feel it when you drive" well i felt bumps in the road i never knew were there dual monza muffler has to go- all it really does sound is loud- any recommendations for a quieter more purring exhaust?and how can i quiet the fuel pump- sucker makes a bit of noise id rather eliminate if possible anyways i got to work - smoke billowing from the front drivers tire- get out to check it and the rotor is glowing cherry red- so im guessing a sticky caliper at least - add new rotors and calipers to my wish list - suprisingly it didnt smoke the wheel bearing and didnt perma weld the rotor solid- it rolls easily still about 9:30 break i go outside and rains pouring down- looks like ill also be adding a new targa top with good window seals to my list heheh . managed to waterproof the windows with some ever handy shop rags -til i get the new or good used top ive taken to calling her Das Boot- drove home ok, wheel got only warm - note* need to fix defroster * told my daughter to grab her blowdryer and come outside , why she asks? so you can dry out the porsche ! heheh think shes mad at me for some reason now:) p.s. i was thinking it could really use a tilt wheel with self cancelling turn signals- anyone done this and can give suggestions on donor cars? |

Glad you like it. There's no real reason for this to be in the Sandbox. It's completely on topic. You don't need a whole new top to get weather seals. The seals by themselves are available, and you should be sitting down when you check to see how expensive a complete set of seals costs. You also usually have to futz with the window adjustment to get it to fit into the seals for a complete, uh, seal.
The car came with self-cancelling signals, unless you're running an aftermarket wheel OR the cancelling tab has broken off. |

cool so the cancelling part is probly just busted then - means i can probly pick on up at a local vw specialized auto parts store
wasnt sure where to post cuz its not really a tech/garage thing- just a more or less off the top of my mind post i know the seals are the problem because there are holes and pieces of them missing where it looks like someone ripped em usin a hanger to pop the lock i used to have an old mopar hood to cowl seal that i could maybe make work for interim but will probly just look for another top as this ones not in the greatest shape - i do know she needs new top latches- the rears almost dont catch the pins and the front pass side the folding handle is gone |

It's safer here... in the sandbox... maybe..
Get a triad muffler.. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) Das Boot is not taken.. well.. I think Jim called his Bumble/6 Das Boot... but he doesn't mind... just don't refer to your car as the Submarine ©. Yes, the steering is very quick.. imagine that it had been your daily driver forever, and you had to drive something... anything else.. Addictive little buggers aren't they? I'm moving this to the garage but I'll leave a link here in the sandbox. |

Amazing how a little blurb mentioning Lee Trevino throws this thread into obscurity. Attached image(s) |

its all a matter of degrees of seperation
was looking at a 914 here locally and the guy who has/had it used to work for someone i also worked for few years ago- said he like so many others got well, bent over by the Co. owner for some money for wages and never got paid- said he thought about filing with labor board cuz out of a stack of files 3 inches high they had 1 who pushed it and won his case lol- the 1 was me heheh daughter once said ( when she was in elem school) i wish the president would come to MY school- less than a week later he did. kinda a cool story there- we got seperated from her class and ended up in line with the principal - SS came and escorted us behind stage and next thing we are up ON stage standing/sitting behind him when he made his speech- got a free t shirt/ hat and a small american flag heheh but was still kinda cool- how often do everyday people get to see and shake a prez hand in their life? |

yes good to see you back miles!!!!!!
hey lincoln. do you have carbs or fool injection (jus kiddin) I'm guessing carbs because you mentioned the fuel pump was loud. you can isolate that fuel pump noise with some rubber blocks in its mounting. any rubber could work, go to lowes hardware and find some 1/2 inch rubber blocks and then use a longer bolt and nut to attatch the pump. somebody post a picture for me of what the rubber blocks would look like please! good to see you miles! brant |
