Front turnsignal wiring - is this correct? (pic) Options

My front turn signals operate oddly - only on one filament.

When I turn the lights on, the lower filament in the bulb lights up.

When I turn the turn signal on, that filament blinks on and off.

The upper filament in the bulb never goes on.

I believe when the lights are on, the lower filament is supposed to be lit, and when the turn signal is activated, the lower stays on, and the upper filament blinks.

It's not the bulb - changing bulbs makes no difference and these are brand new.

I finished painting the car so these were taken out and put back in. Are they wired wrong? That seems to be the problem. I marked everything pretty carefully - but who knows, they may have been wired wrong all along. I never paid much attention to it.

Here's a (bad) pic. This is the driver's side, looking up into the fender.

The prong at roughly 10 o'clock is grey with black stripe, the prong at roughly 1 o'clock is a double brown, and 4 o'clock is black with white stripe.

If no one knows, can someone go out to their car and take a look with a flashlight?!?

left grey/bl
right bl/yellow

Both side I believe are the same...or mirror...but if one is wrong, it will do what you are saying...

The terminals have numbers on them,,,I cant see mine, but look really close...

I'm not quite sure what you are referring to when you say "top" "right" and "left."

On my passenger side, the wires are:

11 o'clock - double grey/red stripe wires.

2 o'clock - single brown wire

6 o'clock single black/green stripe wire

sounds like a bad ground to me. Check (scrape) the contact points in the housing. Also make surethe bulbis going in right. I've jammed those things in wrong many times. After awhile, the edges of the slots wear away enough to get the bulb in either way.

The bulbs are in correctly, but are not grounding in their sockets very well, on either side.

If I jiggle them around and get them to sit just right, the lights function as they should.

Some tab bending/sanding fixed me up good.

I got up out of my warm chair at midnight my time...

I assumed you would have cleaned the grounds, sockets, and bulbs of a thirty year old German car...but silly me..I assumed.... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/screwy.gif)

Well glad to hear you firugred it out...now clean all of them...back lights are the worst, and they can make the whole circuit act wierd...

So tommorow...take out all the bulbs, sand the contacts at the rear or the bulb, sand and clean the surface where the outer case of the buld touches the socket...

Then use some Dielectric grease to keep it that way...its good for exposed electrical joints...

Thanks for looking for me. The bulbs are brand new, and I eyeballed the sockets, which *looked* pretty darn clean. I think the tabs were just a bit bent out of shape.
