Someone on the MSEFI board has $30/hp in their signature.
My 914 (a 1.7) cost me $3000 for it's 80hp, or $37.50/hp. My FIAT also cost me $3000, but it makes 96hp ($31.25). I sold my 912 for $6000, so the new owner paid $67 for each of its 90hp. My wife paid $119/hp for her Subaru. Never mind it will do 14sec 1/4 mile times... I think my record would be my '87 RX-7 Turbo, $3000 for 190hp, a bargain at only $15.79/hp. My record the other way would be my '99 Miata, at $171. |

'70 914 $1000 for 1.7, for $12.5 per horsepower
'70 914 with Subaru conversion probably end up totalling $2500, so $14.7/HP '01 TT Quattro (wife's car) $86.7 /HP -Tony |

Purchase price alone...
~$24/hp. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) Factoring in all parts/costs since purchase... I'd rather not figure that out. I reckon I'm about 10k into my 914, and probably about 180HP currently - so that would be... $55/hp.
If one discounts all the suspension and mods to the 1.7l engine I have before though - I'm about $4k in - with the tub and the subaru engine - which yields a much healthier $22/hp. |

What are you in for just the Soob swap? Figure the difference between whatever you're running now and 80hp, and you'll have an even healthier figure. |

About $15 per hp, unless you count the tires and the wheels, then it jumps up to $25 per. After I paint it and replace the body seals...don't want to talk about it

I can't answer that for the 914 except to say more than is sensible to most people. The reason I can't do better than that is I don't keep track because I don't want to know. With that said it is the car I value the most even though it is the car I drive the least. Again most people wouldn't understand. People here probably get it though. It's tough to put a value on it; it is certainly more than money. I'm looking forward to that first really warm day in spring and driving with the top off.

$105.27 for 475 if you factor in the total build costs and motor replacements parts broken along the way etc.
$21.06 if you are talking powerplant only. Attached image(s) |

1980 Chevy Elcamino. 396 BBC, Dynoed at 420HP Paid exactly $3900 for the car. $9.28 per HP Of course... it had no paint, radio, or much of an interior when I bought it...... but that all came afterward, and it didn't affect the HP (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) |

mhmmm, lets see ... with the current 1.7L: ~15k for ~70 HP = $214.29 / HP with the 3.6L installed: ~25k for ~300 HP = $83.33 / HP well, what do you know, the 3.6L is much cheaper than the 1.7L ! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/w00t.gif) Andy |
