make sure cookies are not turned off.
some IEe installations had that on by default as a "security feature". or, if you choose custom settings in your IE security settings, that may effect cookie handling as well. use the "default" settings for security in the IE options ...

ummm, isn't it supposed to do that?
or am i misunderstanding something here?

the cookie keeps your user-id.
so, if you log in with your PC at work and browse the BBS,
then go home and fire up your MAC you will see only the posts
that came in as new posts AFTER you turned off your PC ...

on your MAC, does it show you items as read
when you read them on the mac, then close the browser,
then go back to the bbs. or does it lose the info there too ???

No, it never shows them as read on the mac. It shows me what was read on the pc.

I can read 10 messages on the mac and none show as read. But if I read those same messages on my pc and then go to the mac it shows them as read.

Both computers are here in my home/office so I can A/B them easily.

Your Mac prolly has a different IP address/number, which is why the cookies get all confused...

I'm using DHCP, so yes, they do have a different IP on my internal network. But, to the outside world they look the same.

ip shouldn't be a problem. i use the BBS at work and from home (completely different IPs) and either way, it keeps track of what was viewed. if i interpret the cookie right, it just stores your userid. the info about what you viewed is stored on the server. soooo, every time you log in it should show you the latest, no matter from where (or what box) you log in ...

seanery:
does the mac remember your login to the BBS?
or do you have to re-login every time?
because if it remembers your login, cookies must work on your MAC and
therefore the problem must be in the way the server interprets (sp?) your cookie.

Andy,

The BBS auto logs me in on the mac, sooooo you're right it's probably not my mac.
It's not a huge pain in the ass to me cause I use the pc most of the time, but if there are
other mac users it could be enough to not use the bbs.
