some of the broadband challanged members complained that the new site was too slow for them.
i made a few changes in the setup, mainly, i now run PHP as an ISAPI filter instead of a CGI executeable.
this should help speeding things up a bit ...

snails, please report back ...

I am on a high speed connection. I think it is a little slower than it was an hour ago. Then again, it is hard to keep up with all the changes / improvements you guys are doing. Every time I log in the site is getting better and better. Keep up the good work.

BTW - The smilie page is back like it was before. A short time ago it worked fine. Now it will not let me access Show All.

I can get to "Show All"...took a bit to load them all in, though.

My Bad. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/slap.gif) I already had the smilies open on another page and it would not open and display again. Sorry. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I'll stick to what I know (what ever that is) It certainly isn't computer geek stuff, and let you experts work your magic.

Site is definitely faster than yesterday. If you are running on IIS6, be sure to be running in Worker Process Isolation mode and tune your worker threads.

<httpRuntime
executionTimeout="90"
maxRequestLength="4096"
useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="false"
minFreeThreads="88"
minLocalRequestFreeThreads="76"

appRequestQueueLimit="1000"
enableVersionHeader="false"

<processModel
enable="true"
timeout="Infinite"
idleTimeout="Infinite"
shutdownTimeout="0:00:05"
requestLimit="Infinite"
requestQueueLimit="5000"
restartQueueLimit="10"
memoryLimit="60"
webGarden="false"
cpuMask="0xffffffff"
userName="machine"
password="AutoGenerate"
logLevel="Errors"
clientConnectedCheck="0:00:05"
comAuthenticationLevel="Connect"
comImpersonationLevel="Impersonate"
responseDeadlockInterval="00:03:00"
maxWorkerThreads="100"
maxIoThreads="100"
minWorkerThreads="50"
minIoThreads="50"

/>

Running under an ISAPI is going to be much better on Windows even if IIS5 on Win2000.

The site actually feels slower to me right now. But it might be that my DSL connection sucks at the moment.

Oh, look at that. I need more whiskey. That means I have to end this post.

Cool pictures... but shouldn't the black and white 914 have a light bar???

Also a 914 with "Call 911" on the side is just sacriligeous. It should say "Call 914"!!!

Makers Mark.

I've got a few bottles of some 12 year old single malt. I'll tap into one of them next weekend camping.

I first had sctoch camping, and it never tastes quite as good at home as it does in a tent or around a campfire. UNless its 20+ years old, and preceeding a very rare steak. Thats good anywhere!

Um... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hijacked.gif) Back to your regularly sceduled thread now....

When clicking through the topics, the initial connection with the site seems to take a little bit long (could be my browser as I notice this with Firefox sometimes). However, once the site starts to send data back, it is very quick. I am using Firefox 1.5.

What's the backend database? Are you using pooled database connections? Are you using a "role based" architecture (web server uses one connection string to the database)? You won't get connection pooling otherwise.

Is this on a Windows domain or is it a single server that is in a "workgroup"? If so, are you setup for Windows Authentication on the domain for connection to the database (Kerberos) or SQL Authentication?

Are the database and web server on the same server?

Do you you session state? If not, turn it off in IIS on the site.

Do you use IIS Logging? If images are stored in folder (vs. database), disable the weblogging for the images folder.

Lock the speed/duplex on the NIC and the connecting switch.

Disable any unneccessary services. Disable any unused ISAPI filters.
