Anyone have a suggestion on how to remove the entire rear suspension from a parts car. Removed nuts from either side of arms but not sure where to go next. Once they are free and top of shock it drops out? (thought of saw but tough to get at). Rust makes removal of the brackets to the body tough.

Disconnect CVs at tranny
Remove hand brake cable from caliper Cut rubber brake line hose Remove outer bolts (3) on outboard trailing arm mount Remove inner nut (1) on inboard trailing arm mount Remove top shock absorber mounting nut (in rear trunk) Suspension for that side will drop on your foot. |

I had the same problem on the weekend with the 3 bolts on outboard mounts. I used liquid wrench and a breaker bar - still broke 2 bolts.
Good it was the "parts" car. |

Drop the shock from the top... you don't have to mess with the springs or worry about compression, it comes out as a unit.
Use PB Blaster and a MAPP torch at the top of those 17mm trailing arm mount bolts. Remove the top plastic plugs to get the PB Blaster to seep in there. Use an air wrench set on fairly low power to rattle them out a bit. Go easy or you'll end up like our new friend Cobra (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif). Good thing it was a parts car... |
