ouch...

But something doesn't look right in that photo.

Where is the car? even a 3 series would have a larger amss than that.

Why is the tree not pushed over or broken? Its a small tree, and car at ~140mph would surelky have defornmed a lil sapling like that...

I recognise that picture - it's from wrecked exotics. It's a Ford Escort (european edition), not a 3 series.

It's a fitting end for the car.

The driver escape with no injuries and wasn't wearing a seatbelt - if I remember rightly.

Fiid.

Not nearly as horrid looking, but this E36 M3 managed to bounce off a tree and get itself stuck pretty well. This was across the street my old house one day; happened to have my camera handy.

The driver must've been -really- embarrased. This is a 30mph road and it wasn't raining or anything IIRC...pure solo screwup.

I have an M3. I bought it wrecked. That would never happen. The car is fairly stout. The tail light had me fooled for a minute though. Til I spotted the bolt pattern on the wheel. There is still something wrong with that photo. Half the car is missing.

I smacked my 328is through a concrete block wall about 5 years ago. I think something like $9k in damage.

Airbag didn't go off. BMW was interested in why it didn't. Police said I was lucky it didn't as it probably would have caused MORE injuries and cracked my eyeglass lenses.

It was a funny story. It was something like 2 days before New Years. It was in the high 30s and it had rained and almost midnight. Here in Florida, the roads get what's called "Florida Ice" when it hasn't rained in a while and it gets really cold (just above freezing). When it rains, the oil comes up off the streets and our non-winterized Florida tires get nice and hard and can easily slip on the wet cold roads.

Anywho... I was making a turn from one road to another and as I finish the turn and go to straighten up the wheel, the car just keeps turning to the left. So in a frantic move to correct the situation, I overcompensate and cause my car to do two 360s before hopping a curb and smacking through a concrete block retainer wall. It took like 2 seconds for this all to transpire.

I'm dazed and pumped full of adrenaline. I hop out of the car to flag down my wife who was about a minute behind me because she caught a light about a mile back. I'm waving at her and she later tells me she's thinking... "Who's the idiot waving at traffic at 11:30 at night. Oh crap, it's my husband".

Anyways, we call the FHP, and he investigates. He checks me out, the car out and says... well you most likely were speeding so I'm going to have to wriite you a ticket for wreckless driving. Just then (thank God), two cars are rubbernecking at my wreck and have to hit the brakes because the light changes and they both do 360s through the intersection on the slick roads. He looks at me, smiles, and say... "Then again... maybe it WASN"T your fault." Phew!

I think its one of those things they put out at colleges to discourage against drunk driving. They had one at my college but nowhere near that kind of damage but it was messed up and I think there was blood inside the car too. I think it only had one flyer on it saying this is what happens when you drink and drive.

I agree. The car was staged against the tree. My high school did the same thing and they walked everyone around it. I say the front clip is missing.

In the pic above you can see evidence of the "staging", notice the blue wire holding the car bits together (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

The tree would have been plowed over and all the dirt/grass around it would have been dug up.

Next pic.

And I don't think the engine block and tranny would have been smashed paper-thin...

Looks like someone "wrapped" it around the tree on purpose!

And they claim the driver was not injured...

Unless perhaps the car hit something else first, which tore it apart. Maybe this is just where the rear end ended up afterward. You can see people in the first pic looking to the right.
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
There's a lot of missing information. Fun to guess though!

Looks fake to me, too. Reminds me of some of the pranks the engineers used to pull when I went to University. One time they disassembled a car and reassembled it in the deans office. Another time the cut a car in half and rebuilt it around a light pole right infront of the main entrance. This looks like something some crazy engineers would dream up, although they usually like to be a little neater, not smash things up.

It looks like one of those Madd (mothers against drunk driving) events where they shock and aw the kids at the high school!
