I'm gonna take my first dive into the distributor tomorrow. I guess I'm supposed to look at dwell, timing, points, maybe check plugs and wires.

I believe I will need a timing light and a tach/dwell meter thing, so I see PepBoys has a sale for the EQUUS 5-Piece Test & Tune Kit for $50

Will this stuff work for me or is it junk or non-914 friendly?

Also, the PO never made good on sending me the tool kit, so I don't have a spark plug wrench. Is there an alternative I can get at FLAPS, Harbor Freight, or Sears?

Thanks. This'll be fun, right? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Hey Dan,
I like the compression testers that thread into the spark plug hole, then you can a free hand while cranking over the engine. ( I usually work alone) That looks like the same timing light I have, works fine. Dwell meter, just fine to see where your RPM's are at or setting dwell. Vaccum gauge.....I don't have one yet but let me know how you like it and I might splurge.

Have fun
Tim

Does that timing light have an advance setting.

If not get one with it... makes the job way easier.
