I painted my sails first with a "hammered" paint I believe from Rustoleum, followed by a regular gloss black since the hammered paint did not have a jet-black color. The hammered paint gives the sails a finish similar to the original vinyl covering.

Spoke, that looks good, but do you have/can take a pic which has all the sail?
You omitted the crome at the sail/body interface.
I'm about to have mine painted and am concerned about the crome pieces at that location. Maybe I should follow your method.

I'll take a better pic of the entire sail and try to get the texture. I removed all the surrounding chrome trim before painting.

I got carbon fiber front and back hood so the sail and engine hatch will be glossy black. I might even do the window frame area up to the plastic fender seals. I'd say glossy black as much as you can. If you are doing it yourself, use some good automotive paint with hardener and such, apply it with a roller and cross hatch with a natural bristle (sable) brush. Apply a couple/three of this base coat and then finish smooth with compound, polish. I just saw this on a rice burner and it looked sharp.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) If all else fails, use Rustoleum!

I remember that someone used Wurth Stoneguard on their sails and windshield frame. It looked realy nice.

I'm thinking on having my sails and top sprayed with Line X truck bed liner.
My friend had two of his trucks beds done and the texture looks pretty nice.

Joe O'brien was leaning on the car and I asked him what he thought of sail panneles and I knew he didn't like them so I asked him to look at them and he had to touch it to see if it was painted. It took all of 10 minutes per side.

Here's some better pics of the hammered paint look. I coated it with gloss black. Semigloss or satin would give a more subtle look. I like the bed liner look too.

I took 10 minutes for both sides including clean-up of the overspray. After I scraped it I used blue low tack tape and a razor knife and cut off excess tape and sprayed the gunk on then used laquar thiner to clean up some overspray. Pull the tape and your done. One thing, this is the CSOB way out and you will feel it in your soul.
