Car hasn't been on the road in awhile, but I'm working at getting it road worthy again. I've been staring at a detached vacuum hose, trying to figure out where it goes. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Connects the distributor to who knows what. Haynes doesn't help me out on this one. It's a 1974 1.8 L-jet.

Thanks in advance.

nice camera...
nice pic.

I don't know L-jet, but hope to learn.

my uneducated guess is throttle body.
the vacuum pot on the distributors assist with advance/retard.

later D-jet lines were left unused, and like I said I don't know L-jet so that may be the case with yours... however, that doesn't look like a factory plug so I'm guessing its not supposed to look like that. some PO did that.

pull the aircleaner and check the TB

Funny you should say "thanks in advance." Because that's the advance tap on the dizzy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
If it goes somewhere, it would be to a tap on the throttle body above the butterfly.
On late Djet cars, that just lays disconnected. But I see L-jet..... which I don't know much about..... so let's see what else you get.....

Thanks guys...

Let's see, camera is an older Nikon Coolpix. Takes great pictures. Really let's me see how dirty my engine compartment is.

Yup, I've been looking all around the throttle body, following the 1.8 vacuum hose diagram on Pelican, but I can't find any place to stick this hose into... I've concluded that the diagram on Pelican is not an L-jet.

Seems pretty bizarre that it would be hose-to-nowhere from the factory, but that's logical... I have a bunch of empty spots on my relay board, who says my vacuum hoses actually have to go somewhere?

I'm betting that for L-jet there is no "loose" hose from the factory.
that was likely a unique solution for the Djet those last years.

Yep, should be hooked to the TB on the small port not the retard port.

Actually, Pete Klager did. That's from a 75 1.8 with all of the smog equipment in place.

My old 74 1.8 did not have a vacuum advance fitting on the throttle body, so the advance fitting on the distributor was left unattached. (Which caused me a lot of grief with the Smog Monkeys back when I still had to smog the car!)

Dave,

Good info, thanks. I guess I can just take off the hose and put some little rubber thingy over the distributor fitting.

interesting! this got me curious about what i have on my 74 L-jet so i checked and i DO have 2 ports on the throttle body and the 2 hoses are connected. one of the fittings is really "under" there on the throttle body so you might look and feel throughly for the little tube fitting to see if it is there or not, expecially if the pix supplied by DD is for a 75.

the engine in your pix says L-jet but the heater blower fan mounted on the fan housing says 70-72 (?). just a curiosity

I have a 74 L-Jet as well with two ports, one is conected to the TB and the other, yes just hanges unconnected. I too was concerned about the loose hose off of the vaccum advance and asked the board the same question. Dave Darling chimed in who is the L-Jet King around here and said that's the way they came from the factory on the 74s.
