I saw this tool for the first time today. Tool is possesed by a former body shop owner who got the tool from Porsche 30 years ago as he recalled. Do you know what it is used for?

My dad fabbed one up when we had to do that on my car. My explanation didn't quite capture the roller torsion but that's what I meant about the "hinge". No worries on the sticker - just fun playing along...

I could have used that tool when I removed and replaced the trunk lid and hinges on my red car. Moving the torsion springs with box wrenches was quite scary. Those suckers pack some serious pressure.

To get his money, prying the customers wallet open, for his repair bills.
Either that or for safely removing and installing the nylon rollers that the engine lid spring torks the tension out on. MikeCool |

I tried using this tool recently and it really works much better if you have two of them used together becasue of the configuration of the spring. I had two of these tools and used together, the process was as safe as it gets and the length of the lever puts using any other sort of kluged gizmo to shame...

i think i still have a wrench (pry tool) stuck in the engine bay, after my last install. I finally got it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) then i noticed the wrench was on the wrong side of the roller (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
its not hurting anything, and i know where to find it on the next spring removal (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |
