Took my car out for a ride today. Wanted to shake out the last few bugs in the system before RRC. Engine has been making a bit of a rattling sound, but I was sure it wasn't anything serious. Going up Ute Pass, right about where the road gets interesting, the usual thing happens : a bunch of dorks decide its more prudent to pull into the left lane and creep along in the blind spots of the folks in the right lane. A total waste of a road. Even though this annoys the hell out of me, I usually just wait until the road flattens out and gets straight, where, predicatably, all the constipators either get back in the right lane (rare) or at least spread out some. But not today ! I saw a gap, punched the gas hard, cut around the right hand side of an SUV, and had one nice turn on this awesome road. But the clacking noise got a lot louder, power went to zero, and I headed for a pullout where the engine promtly died. When I popped the engine lid, I saw smoke coming out of the air box. So it looks like its RIP for this engine. Good thing Trojanman promised he'd buy it from me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Anyway, I've got a Subaru EJ25 which was slated to go into the teener "sometime", but I was hoping to finish off the season on the VWPorsche 2.0. Looks like I'll have to bum some rides at RRC if I want to do those beautiful roads justice.

Oh, yeah, I'm definitely going. Gonna drive my "other" car ('97 Saab 900 turbo). But I definitely want to do the twisties in a 914. Guess this way I'll have more time to snap "action" pics.
