Online Poker will be banned in US
If you play online and have $$ online now would be a very good time to take it out. It was fun while it lasted. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chowtime.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chowtime.gif) |

Damn stupid if you ask me. The gaming industry has lots of lobbiests. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) has nothing to do with gambling, but HOW you gamble. Forces you to put your money into local casinos instead of online. I don't gamble so I won't have to change my ways, but this kind of law is LAME in that it isn't about trying to curb gambling addictions as I am sure the advertising they used to sell it claimed. I would gamble it is driven by lobbies (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) |

The fact that Indian casino have taken a chuck of dollars from the traditional big two gaming destinations, Vegas and Atlantic City, can only fuel the lobbyists from those cities/establishments to ban online gaming. It is lame for sure. Addicts are addicts and always will be; laws will not change them. T |

I work in the gaming industry for a slot manufacturer. I have to deal with gaming laws every day. Everyone in the business (legitimately) spends millions to keep in legal standing for the various legal gaming jurisdictions. These regulations are in place to protect players, operators, manufactures and Uncle Sam. Online gaming has kind of operated outside of these regulations. It was only a matter of time before someone cried foul.
I'm sure someone will work a way around it though. Offshore bank accounts or something. |

Harrahs is a good example, they operate a handful of tribal casinos. The tribe just sits back and watches the dough roll in. Basically the same people that operate vegas casinos are operating tribal casinos. Besides, have you been to Vegas lately? I don't think the Vegas gaming biz is feeling at all pinched. $300 rooms on the weekends and $20 buffets. $25 min blackjack tables are the norm. Some of the most profitable casinos are tribal BTW. |

I'm in vegas 2-4 times a year. I spend maybe 20 bucks gambling in a weekend. I'm glad the gambling addicts keep it afloat for me though.

It's about the taxes....one figures quoted in the link says $6.5 billion....20% tax is $1.3 billion....you can keep a lot of schools open for that much cash
