I have come up with a process to stamp the original style build dates and VIN numbers on new door jam decals. It will look just like the originals. I haven't worked out how I will do them for people, so they are not using this service to dupe up 914/6 or LE's (etc). Brad suggestions???? If only a few people are interested I will buy the decals from AA and punch them out. If enough people are interested I will get some made. I'm also looking at punching in those large C's to make it tamper proof as used on the later cars (something AA decals don't offer) . If you might be interested in this service please post here. I will post later when I'm ready to start the service. I haven't figured out a price yet. It depends on how many I can do at one time. I'd like to do batches of these every six months or so. Like anything else, it the set up time. I'll post a picture of the decal before I start taking firm orders. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Thanks
Peter

You should also post this here: --->914 Resources, Parts and Products
That way it doesn't git lost several pages back and have no one see it. Sounds valuable! Great job!

Peter this is awesome.

I say make your own so you dont have to wait on AA.

Can you show us a pic.

Oh.. and please put something together for the "vendors forum"

This is too cool. I know I will stock them when I get the 914 biz off the ground.

Anyone who paints their car needs one of these. Body shops rarely mask the original off correctly and you still get bleed thru.

i took mine off before we painted it but it still has the "Signal Orange" paint code on it. hmmmm, now i have to figure out what the paint code for "Guards Red" would be. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Peter,

You wont make a million dollars off this.. but they will sell nicely. Throw them up on Ebay or sell them thru the club site.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) , You will make 2 million. Just make sure that every one you sell is "The last one in existence, or found in a secret lost warehouse, or at very least the good ol' NLA"

Andy, use code 98, which is for custom colors. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Fake vins, fake color codes. Next thing you know you'll hear about 914/6s which have had whole halves replaced!

This came up a while ago (within the last year) and I recall there is someone else either making the plates or punching in the VINs. Anyone recall the particulars? I need one but I'd rather not rely on AA.

Andy, it is the black decal. "Manufactured by VOLKSWAGEN AG ........etc) It is not the paint trim tag. It just has the build date, (month and year) and the VIN number. I did some today to test the process (not on the real decal though) and it worked great. I should know more after I get some decals from AA to test and post some pictures. Then I'll post in the venders section.
I'm not really looking to make a million dollars. Just do something to enhance people cars. Like a lot of other people here are doing. Probably after I buy a few decals AA will shut me down anyway. After that the cost of having decals made will be a big factor in my continuing. Anyway, I'll know more in the next few weeks. I'm really more concerned about people using it to validate a bogus car.

i see. too bad. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) i think you could make more money with the plate that has the paint-code on it ....

There was a thread on the bird board, about getting these from
the factory,through a dealer for a $100 with a couple month wait
I would be interested in a less expensive alternative.

Keep us posted

One thing to consider however is that there were a few variations in the printing of the decals over the years. That said, I'm interested. I think PCNA requires a copy of the ownership as verification of the VIN, and it may have to be done through a dealer to ensure it is on the up and up. Security may be something to carefully consider, you don't want to get into any legal problems. Have us sign a waiver or something to cover your butt. I have a few photos of these decals that may illustrate differences. I have no idea as to what VIN range they are applicable to though. The same goes for the date codes on them. That at least I have a bit of data on. I'm certainly willing to assist in this area if it would help.

I too would be interested in 2 of them. One of mine was long gone and the other one is really hard to read.
