I am refurbishing my fog lights, the shinny chrome reflector material is flaking - is there a "spray" type of paint that would work if I had the old material removed?

Any help would be appreciated.

no spray will do (the factory "sprayed" some of the newly made front turn signal and rear turn signal assemblies and they do not reflect very well. Still good used available or a rechroming shop with handle fairly cheaply

Or you could do the Pilot light upgrade...bet it's cheaper than rechroming.

Camp914 sells them

Not OE but they're brighter and it's hard to spot that they're not "correct".

I thought of and would have suggested that except that the man seemed like he was in "concours corner" (a man after my own heart) so I replied appropriately.

Is the reflector material really Chrome? Has anyone actually had these redone? What about the reflector in the tail light. Isn't this a special deposited form of aluminum? I am guessing this is a metalized vacuum deposition or something like that. Has anyone had these redone?

There seem to be quite a few companies that specialize in plastic chroming. Check Hemmings for several, or google plastic chroming.

Hi martinef1963
I have another option to your refurbishing driving lights dilemma… I have refurbished a lot of 914 driving lights, what I like to do is refurbish the outer housing and then use a sealed beam halogen lamp instead of the stock lens and reflector housing. Please see attached pic, contact me if you’re interested and I will provide you with additional info.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Bam/Jimmy - those look awsome, however, I've already invested in new OEM lenses, seals, and like you like to redo stuff. Even though I am a novice - I like to tinker w/ stuff.

I will be doing exactly what you have done, w/ the exception of using the halogen lamp you use. I'm tracking this thread in the event I change my mind or I can recommend your service to other people.

By the way, just got back from the SF this past week, spend new years in Lake Tahoe. I use to live on Pine & Powell - maaaannnnyyy years ago. The place continues to amaze me.

Thanks to everyone that has given me suggestions - I have decided to having them rechromed.

regards,

Fernando

Thanks Eric,
I have refurbished a bunch of 914 fog/driving lights and have received great responses. I do sell the sealed beam halogen lamp and I am currently trying to complete a how-to instruction sheet. If you have any questions or want further information, please contact me.

Thank you,
Jimmy
