The Windshield seal I named above is NLA but you can order this
at your Porsche Dealer. It will not deliever asap but your order will produce a backlog. My local Porsche Dealer told me that Porsche will let produce the seal if they have enough orders to see the need of this seal. I have ordered 4 seals. Wilco |

The dealers and Factory lie like rugs. I have had 40 on order from Germany for year now with a healthy deposit sitting in Germany.
Next story please. |

they will not make them again. The story is that the man who had the company that made them died and the son is not interested. They were too short anyway. Some Knucklehead says he is in the process of getting the seal finalized and then flooding the market with them very very soon, but we will see!!!!!!!

Because in their catalogs it is not listed as NLA; it's listed as out of stock. If you do a search, you will find all the reasons I have been told that they haven't been made as yet. The last word was end of March.
I had made a decision to pull the depost (more than enough to buy a really nice 914) back at the end of January '07 ... maybe I will rethink this action and maybe not. Knowing one person who has dealt with the Factory for at least 30 years .. he told me not to hold my breath; that his inside sources say they do not intend to make them. Oh well. It would be nice to break into the factory's computer and find out how many are on backorder at this point. I would estimate betwee 500 and 1000 minimum. Oh, and if you gave a deposit it's just recorded as a potential sale for the dealer. |

NO they are not for sale, but all you guys that have parts cars I would check this seal and if it is still good carefully remove and lock it in a safe. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

So, with the many people here, including degreed engineers... nobody has one good seal that we could use to get some chineese company to make us 500?
Doesnt anybody know anyone? Time to really attempt to fix this issue... Perhaps getting Panorama to help us... If we refuse to give up... perhaps we can get something done... George H is here now... How did he get some made years ago? CMon George, help a brother out... just tell us what we need to do... |

Is there a difference between the 914/6 and the 914/4 factory windshield top seal?
I realize there must have been some difference between the 70, 71 and 72 914 and those from 73, 74, 75 and 76 based on price list in an older AA catalog. I imagine the person who just got the seals I have in classified parts will really know I have to be the dumbest owner of a 914 ever. My wife is hitting me with her Rennlist buddies gift, that aluminum Louisville Slugger baseball bat as I type. Mike be sure to tell your wife you had a second chance offer on those seals.
I suppose some one has a seal that could be sent to a seal manufacturing company, Oh that would be me. I guess it is time to get off the pot and see what we can come up. I have been in contact with a manufacturer, I will follow up on monday, USA made. CCLINSEALSFORTHEMASSES |

Wilco Hello Wilco, I've ask the head of the spare parts department of porsche berlin, who is an old school friend of mine (good to know one in that position :-) ) and he told me that there is definitively no chance for a reproduction run upon request. As well, if there is a huge number of back orders. That is as well true for all other parts, especially the NLA chassis parts. Maybe we can look for another source and start one of those beloved "Group Buys" (remember our roll cage buy ?) You think someone like this might br interested in reproducing the seal?
Steele Rubber Products http://166.82.96.3/homeframes.html They are already in the business of making this sort of stuff and at the prices theses seals are selling at, I would think they would at least take a look and see if there would be a good ROI (return on investment). Has anyone ever contacted them? I am going to need one of these and I don't want to spend $1k (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) |

If someone else made these rubber pieces for Porsche, then someone else can do it again. Of course, for a limited run, considering therotically the size of an order such as one for every 914, the people who could make these probably won't. The next trend of mass 914 modification will likely be following the metal top installation such as the one that was shown and discussed here on 914world.com by Dr. 914. So, Camp 914, get in that mode and you will be ahead of the game. Very few 914's are original anyhow so there should be no problem with most owner's going that permanent metal lid route since the cost would be a one time event that may cost even less than that windshield top seal price climbs to in the future making that rubber piece this thread is about seem like peanuts. Just my opinion and even though most don't respect most opinions other than their own, the idea is planted and eventually someone will become that specialist. |

How did he get some made years ago? CMon George, help a brother out... just tell us what we need to do... We had a thousand of them made in China without the rubber and they had to be glued in across the top but were acceptable and cheap. We are currently producing the product again but now in India and we will have two thousand of them in a couple of months but without the steel in them. They will be cheap. The ones with the steel in them is currently being run in Ohio but he is having continual problems with the pieces vulcanizing together properly because of the steel in the one piece. I have invested over twenty five thousand dollars in tooling time and materials to make this fly and am hoping that any moment he will shout "Watson come here I need you!" Again I do not in any way want to be commercial on this site but want everyone to know that I am committed to this car and will not see it fade away because of the unavailability of parts. However I am not a rich man so I can only afford to make parts that return the investment so I will not go into the poor house! We make over 95 different parts for the 914 and have plans for many more. For example the 914 dash top pad is now in India being duplicated as well as little parts such as the factory shift knob tension bushing. Porsche is discontinuing these parts left and right and it is killing us. I shed a tear at no longer being able to restore a 914 the way I want to: All new factory parts. I have done it in the past and it was a very expensive but rewarding venture, AND it showed everyone just how costly a 914 restoration could be, yet it made a point: At that time the factory was very supportive and one COULD if the had enough crazy money, restore a 914 with all new factory parts. Conclusion? If these cars remain as wildly popular as they are now and become more valuable much like the 356 models, many more people will take up the call and produce parts for these precious pups. |

Very few people can or are willing to buy them at that price. We need them alot cheaper. |
