Anything like a quickie lub on a 914 gas pedal? I'm new to 914 mechanicals. The gas pedal on my '74 is way too stiff. Is there a quick way to lub the gas pedal mechanism until I have the time to figure out how and what tear apart to do it right and/or replace anything? Thanks

which motor have you got is it carbed or FI?
Could be you've just got a sticky cable which might be cured party by spraying a little light lube down there. Do NOT use WD40. If you can pull the cable off throttle linkage & pull that cable then with a helper have them depress acc pedal. Could be a simple cable replace. |

On the back of the gas pedal there is a cup that the linkage rod 'pops' into.
I have had it dry out so much that it was sticking a little. Pull on the pedal until it pops out and put a little LUBE in there. |

Your problem is not the pedal it's the cable. You may have a few strands broken and it is binding up.
Replace the cable. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Thanks Steve Stiff or sticking petal, usually comes down to a worn petal assembly, the bearings are toast, and or plastic inside the cable is worn and broken. I should know. I have had both problems. The cable should never need lubing. You also want to check the petal push rod to be sure it is not bent. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |
