I need your help! I have a 1975 914 with 2.5L (Raby's kit) that I am installing a set of 40 IDF Weber carburetors on. I have carbs, manifolds and the cross bar with pivot linkage. What I need is any information on how to install the linkage. The carbs and linkage came with the car (in the trunk!) when I bought it. I need to know the right way to hook up the linkage.
Does anyone have drawings/schematics/installation info that your willing to share?

I do not recognize your kit- when did you purchase it from us?? Did you purchase it directly or did it come with the car?

If the kit is my 2.5L kit those 40mm carbs are WAYYYY too small! It's imperative that you follow the recommendations that we spec'd with the kit, else you won't have positive experiences with the engine kit.

904 svo.... Thanks for the image. It will definitely help with our reassembly (after I resolve the issue that Jake brought up...)

Jake,

I will contact Blake about your note. My son had purchased the 2.5L piston/cylinder kit from you two years ago. When we bought the vehicle, it had the standard 2.0L with a 32/36 DFV. I did not recall seeing and specs with the kit (if they were on the CD, then I'll have to take another look!) Needless to say, we couldn't run the car with the bigger displacement and the smaller carb.
In the trunk was a set of 40 IDF Webers with some linkage. So, we thought we'd try to install those with the 2.5L. But you said way too small? Would the switch back to a 2.0L work better? Would the car be able run at all with the larger 2.5L and 40's?

So, this wasn't a complete "engine kit"??

The 40mm carbs are only effective at 2.1L and less of overall displacement.

Sounds like I'm confused... (From what I can remember) we have the 96mm piston and cylinder kit. We also have a set of 40 IDF Weber carbs. From what you've said, the 96mm bores are too large for the carbs.
Was just on your website (tons of great info) but I couldn't locate the 96mm kit that I thought we'd purchased a few years back. Is it possible that we don't have the 96mm kit? Did you stop providing the steel cylinders in 96mm?
So, I guess I am more than a bit confused. Maybe I should contact Blake as you suggested via e-mail...

A stock stroke and 96mm pistons make a 2056, which is smaller that 2.1 liters. Maybe you're thinking 2500 when what you have is 2056?
Pistons for a 2.5 are huge, maybe 103's or something like that.

To get 2506 cc's with a stock crank, you'd need 106mm pistons. Look at this engine calculator-

That explains a lot and is probably gets to the source of my confusion. So, I'm back on track to installing the dual Weber set-up this weekend. The engine is definitely standard stroke and I did confirm with my son that he bought the 96mm piston/cylinder kit...
Also the 40 IDF combo with the 2056cc should be an optimal combination. What do you think?
