I have put my 914 on a major diet, have naturally gone overboard and decided to go with fiberglass lids. I would go to getty design with no hesitation but they do not offer a fiberglass hood without headlight cutouts. I saw that gt racing offers them but am unsure of their quality. So whose fiberglass non-cutout hood sucks the least? Can anybody comment on gt racing's quality? I want the best fitting part possible (bolt on), I HATE working with fiberglass!
Thanks, Dana. |

Dana, I used Rennspeed Fiberglass. Peter 626-256-8878 Not bad quality but the edge had to be worked to match the cowl better and there were some areas needing filler skim coats particularly where the headlights doors were. They were reasonbly priced. AIR also has headlight delete. Where are you mounting your headlights? |

Thanks for the help guys,
QUOTE Where are you mounting your headlights? I mounted KC hilites in the foglight holes, they do not have a high beam but are so much brighter than stock. They really work great and since I live in wyoming I really don't have to worry about getting busted for dot violations! Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic: ![]() |

we made one for the 9014 that works well and has the innerstructure made in fiberglass as well. Fit is very nice and sold for 450.00 but we make them as needed.

So I just found out that GT racing (http://www.gt-racing.com) is only a couple hours south of me which means I can just pick up a set of lids and not have to pay shipping (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)
BUT if their quality is crap who cares how close they are. If you have any info on these guys and their quality please let me know. Thanks, Dana |

I have a set of USED GT CF lids for my 914, normal headlight style, and they fit fine. My biggest beef with the used ones was the thread engagement for mounting to the hinges was bad, but that could be from the previous owner. I used some threaded inserts, washers, and some sanding to make mine line up better and fit tighter. If you remove all the lid springs first, it only takes 5 minutes to remove the hood - you should test fit them in the parking lot (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
I put a towel on the cowel at each corner to rest the hood lid on and not scratch my paint, then a prop rod under the hood to hold it up...in this position I can just swing the hinges up and bolt or unbolt them to the lid. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

I've bought several parts from GT, I've been very happy. I have only ever seen one fiberglass part that fit perfectly, and it was from them. Most of the stuff fits OK to good, but not perfect.
I tried to fit a pair of doors from better bodies once that were so bad that we had to send them back. The second pair was just as bad. The bottom rear corner stuck out 2" from the quarter panel. Junk! |

Thanks for the info!
I have dropped 120 pounds so far just by unbolting and cutting off stuff I don't need. I will still have a full interior, just no extras like a radio, sound deadining, heater, door bars, windshieldwipers, etc... this is addictive! |

I need to get back into this lens project. I'm wanting to do the headlight delete as well. Gotta get the last refinements made to the die and then get a whole batch of lenses up here.

Dana,
Another source that I almost used: Mark Bartosh PO Box 3432 Running Springs, CA 92382 909-867-9330 I highly recommend Mark's glass. He's the best quality for the least amount of dough. -Eric Shea Chris, I never bolt mounted those lids, in fact the PO Joe O used pins too and he bought them new. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Tony, Any idea when the die will be done? |

Many years ago I bought a factory front hood for my 911. It was so flimsy it indented at speed. Balsa reinforcement did not reinforce! Don't know if there were any factory 914 glass parts, but buyer beware.

Felix:
I dont know when the lenses will be done. I need to send my father in law a new lens so he can take some measurements. I just haven't gotten around to it. I'll see if I can get that over to the post office this weekend. Did you ever fire up the lights with those lenses yet? I saw the picture of them installed, but not with light coming out. I'm really curious to see what they do to the lighting pattern, if anything. -TOny |

Sheridan. A CF/FG composit. The man takes pride in his work.
It is a race piece....no hinges/latches need apply. |

We make a very nice unit (not currently for sale) however, I never have seen a complaint with Getty Design!

My Getty C/F fit like a glove. I always thought it would be easy to make 2 C/F pieces to fit the headlights.

You can also call Bontempi (HPH) about fiberglass parts. Those lids were light (had no structure)
