The Redwood Region hosted a Zone 7 (I think) concours at the Ledson Winery "Castle" in Kenwood California (near Santa Rosa). This is just up the road from where I live, so I made the grueling five minute drive over and snapped a few photos. Ran into Scott Detro who was showing his car along with another 914 owner whose name I can't remember now.

The general atmosphere was a little too high brow for my tastes and I felt out of place by not having at least one trophy girlfriend by my side (j/k!!... kinda). Lots of sexy car goodness though:

We've all been here:
(IMG:http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1327/1465490897_11aba7e02b_b.jpg)

And here (the 914 swan dive!):
(IMG:http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1230/1466340762_49716e5fd0_b.jpg)

Here too:
(IMG:http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1346/1466337306_dc82c44d7e_b.jpg)

His CHT wire came unplugged and the car wouldn't start. Scott poked his head in and found the cause after determining the car had spark (part of the swan dive above).

Hope you like the pics!

I personally like the engine lid ribs painted the body color instead of black.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

Yeah, OK, agreed. It's a concours, so it should be factory correct, even if it goes against the owners preference.

Ferg,
The Ravenna Green 914 is owned by Dean DeCocker from Turlock. It is a very clean restoration.

Andy,
The only concours class that originality really matters these days is in the preservation class, where you would get marked down for the body color under the engine lid grille. Dean scored 249.5 out of 250 points for his car, he is very good at cleaning and touching up paint chips etc. He was judged in the street class which includes the exterior, interior, trunks and engine compartment.
My car has 16X6 5 bolt wheels and in full concours that I was judged in, no points were taken off. What the judges are looking for is condition and cleanliness, you are not graded on originality. I only scored 248 out of 250 points, but I was judged in full concours which also includes the underside of the car. It is hard to drive it over 100 miles and keep everything clean. The judges always find some place with dirt or paint chips that you didn't notice or occured on the way to the event.

Sometimes you get a nice reward for all your hard work, in this case a nice bottle of Zinfandel from the winery with an engraved emblem hung on the bottle and a nice wooden plaque!
Scott
