just wanted to let everyone know that we are here sunday diligently editing this new 914 catalog! What a chore! Putting the prices in the catalog is the MOST time consuming!

Why not separate the price list from the catalog? That's what places like the Roadster Factory do for their Triumph catalogs. Relatively speaking they can put more effort into their catalogs because they last longer. The price list is updated every six months or a year. Skip |

I would LOVE to hire a good guy to do it. We have really neglected it for the last eight months in favor of this catalog. I think that the 914 deserves its own exclusive all color catalog in the hands of the ownership! Anyone who makes and mass mails a exclusive 914 catalog is either crazy, or acknowledging how wildly popular this car really is as compared to any other car in its generation! I hope that I am not crazy! |

With separate catalog and price lists you can produce a higher quality catalog and efficiently update prices. After about two full catalog updates you'll wonder what you were thinking. Once you publish with the pricing next to the pics it would be very difficult to change format in the future. If you start out with a separate price list you always have the option to switch formats. Also, it's my experience of 30 years in the printing biz that 1st time publications always have features the customer wants to change, 'next time'. Do yourself a favor and let us old farts learn how to adapt. Question? Is this a large volume offset run or a smaller quantity digital product? Just curious how you're approaching the production. current printing technology can resolve that issue, skip.
generally, catalogs are printed in 4 colors; cyan, magenta, yellow and black. these 4 colors are needed to reproduce the color images. catalogs prices are usually in black, and printed with the description text and images on 1 print station. this works well with catalogs that rotate stock a lot. in a case where there is not a lot of changes in the stock it's possible to run a 5th color "second hit" of black for more "fluid" information. there is some added expense, but lots of advantages especially now that the industry is almost completely digital. i'll save the dissertation here, but trust me, the upside wins for many. only 1 example would be to run out 4x your subscriptions and spool them back on the roll. imprint the current issue prices (black only) and reserve the remainder. then you have 3 issues worth of "1-color runs" that are WAY cheaper. do this only for the guts, and keep "new product" sections at the beginning, end, or if your catalog staples in the center, put it there. i can't say that performance products produces their catalogs that way, but it shows every indication of it. cb performance also does the seperate price list. it just looks old school and cheap to me, but maybe that's because i have a background in the industry. |

Presumably, you have a database that has a table with part numbers, and prices. It wouldn't be too hard to write a program that scans your catalog and automatically fills out a price box based on a match to the database. I'll write that program in exchange for, say that green six that you used to feature in your catalog. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I believe that the catalogs that Stoddard Imported Cars used to produce had separate price lists. This was back in the 1970's. I for one would vote for a priceless catalog, and a downloadable PDF price list.
