Are there two different types of doors? One lighter than the other?
If so are the doors interchangeable? Thanks Gene 914-6 912 |

Yes, there are early doors and late doors. They are interchangeable but there might be some minute differences in seals, etc.
Early doors have no side impact protection bars and have a 'worm' style window lift mechanism. Late doors have side protection bars and a geared window lift. There are a few crossover doors in early 1973 that are non-impact bar, but geared window lift. The door bars are HEAVY. |

If you are going to change doors it is best to get a complete one. Early doors have a different post than the later ones because of the 4 plastic rollers on the front of the window glass. The rear track also mounts differently. The rear rubber is NLA but one of th club members (Bruce) is making it. All of this in addition to what Mark B said.

To reiterate what Mark & Mark have said, there are three door types, and it is best to replace doors as a complete assembly only. Door #2 , the crossover type, is pretty rare and was used for only the last several weeks of 1972 calendar year production.
