My buddy needs to know what to look for (ie "hell holes") on these cars, he's going to look at a few this week. The car will be just a summer daily driver, he doesn't care if the car has around 100K miles, but he wants a nice unmolested car.

He owns a well respected local VW (watercooled) shop and is a super wench, so he doesn't need the basic PPI knowledge, just the advanced tips and traps for these 2 cars.

These are a couple of the cars he's looking at:
1992 C2 3.6

1986 targa carrea 3.2

Thanks

If the C2 is a 964, and I think it might be, oil leaks. OIL LEAKS! The preferred method is to replace the long block ..................... The Cap'n

I may be wrong on the 1992 car....but there were two things.

The head gasket, or lack therof, created alot of oil leaks as the Cap'n says. There was some sort of fix that required a top end rebuild...ask on the bird board.

The other thing is the dual mass clutch/flywheel. Ask if that has been replaced. It also affected the engine seal..so it was a bad design overall.

Thanks Cap'n and Rich, I figured there's a reason for the price on the C2.
