I have an intermittant relay installed. I continue to get mystery wipes when makiing a sharp turn--not always, just occasionally. These mystery wipes seem to always occur when the windshield has just enough grime to really mess up the view.

OK: Could I be grounding the wiper switch when turning the wheel, or does the intermittant relay just go bonkers and give free wipes at its descetion ? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Who's figured this out ?

Pull the center hub and check your contacts/wires for the wiper switch.
I had the same problem with mine and it was a loose wire closing the circuit when I turned the steering wheel.

I was thinking that is a strong possibility ; when you say loose wire, which end are you refering to ?

Hell, now that I think about it, the wipers could've been coming on due to a loose screw. I originally started off replacing the column bushing and figured "while I'm in there", fix the non-op horn (I think that was the broken wire) and clean/fix anything else.
Hope I didn't screw up you, but it's easy enough to check and make sure everything's tight.

It could also be in the wiper motor. There is a contact that "parks" the wiper. If something is shorting that contact, the wipers will come on until they park again.

Update: I replaced the relay several months ago and have not had any mystery wipes ( aka ghost wipes ) since...

I thought a mystery wipe was when you pooped and wiped and there is nothing on the TP...

Your problem is a loose ground connection. This connection is through the steering housing and not a brown wire. There are 4 screws that hold the turn signal / wiper switch in place. This is where the ground comes from. I had one steering column where the boss that the screw screws into was a little low. This means when you tighten the screw, the contact point on the back of switch doesn't fully make contact with the housing. I believe it is the top right screw that is important. Try placing a small brass washer on the underside of the switch where the screw goes through.

Here is the backside of the switch. You can see there is a washer where the screw will come through. The other 3 do not have this. It must make good ground contact.

Follow up:
Read a post that recommended tightening the 4 screws that hold the TS switch . Mines were a turn or 2 loose.
Tightened them, reinststallef the steering wheel.
Still got a ghost wipe when I used the turn signal switch???
