Eight Story Dome Screen —13,000 Watts of Sound — 750 Horsepower... Put yourself in the driver's seat and experience speeds of more than 200 mph with the magic of the IMAX Dome.

For Bay Area folks it's playing at the Hackworth IMAX Theater at the Tech Museum. Probably at other IMAX's too.

NASCAR: The IMAX Dome Experience goes behind the scenes of the races to uncover the science, technology and teamwork that make up North America's most popular spectator sport. Discover the technology and underlying physics that drivers depend on. Experience NASCAR like never before through the magic of the IMAX Dome.

Featuring the most competitive and skilled drivers and race teams in the world, the NASCAR-IMAX® film will capture the behind the scenes aspects of a sport that has unique family qualities and truly represents the fabric of America. Produced by IMAX® Corporation and NASCAR. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and IMAX® Corporation. Narrated by Kiefer Sutherland.

Go fast, turn left... Repeat until mixed smoothly.

The sport that came from the saying "Hey Ya'll, watch this!"

NASCAR sucks. Until they hit Watkins Glen. Then it kinda sucks. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Later,
Tom

You know, I hate NASCAR. I don't even care about IRL or CART, I like F1. But this was an amazing movie. It made me want to go see a race.

Really nicely done. You got the impression there was some politics involved in the background: very little of Jeff Gordon but lots of Dale Jr and some Newman (sp?) guy. Very little of Bill France too. But the cars are more sophisticated than I imagined, the scene looks like a hoot (combination Super Bown and Mardi Gras) and the sounds simply work.

OK, I knew it would stir ya purists but the IMAX rep said this is their first attempt at IMAX for entertainment much less automotive. They previously highlighted the IMAX camera abilities. Now we're seeing movies like the Matrix on these state of the art screens. The more we support this type of IMAX, the more demand there will be on the other race & automotive venues. Sure, I'd rather see F1 or Lemans but this is a start. I had 0 interest in NASCAR but appreciate and relate to the enthusiasm more after seeing this show. The neat part is the grass roots history creating this huge following that bring's people together... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drunk.gif)

I also hate Nascar but will go see it next week-end with the kids. I saw the CART IMAX movie a few years ago and the in-car footage was awesome, the best image/sound combination I ever saw.

I don't mind NASCAR. I love CART and like F1 but hate IRL and Tony George for ruining open wheel racing in NA. (another topic)
I did see the IMAX featuring Mario Andretti (my all time favorite driver) and his son Micheal. It was great. I can only imagine what 5 more years of IMAX technology would be like to look at. At the time it was almost like being in the car. Having raced on ovals you could almost sense the G's as he was going into the corners at the old Homestead track.
I will go see it when I get to a city that has a theater. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Is this movie in 3D?
I went to Universal in Orlando in December and saw the Governator in a Matrix type film that was IMAX 3D. Special effects were outstanding. Made me duck with crap flying at me, the seat jumped up and down from explosions, and a couple drops of blood (water) sprayed on me when one of the bad guys got blown up.
