914 Gurus...

This is a pic of my last 914. I owned it in 2002.

Ok... no comments on the jacked up foglights and luggage rack!! It was a cool car anyway! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Notice the side mirrors. I've seen them on other teeners, and I want to purchase them for my current car.

WHAT ARE THEY CALLED, AND WHERE CAN I FIND THEM?

Also... I'm willing to take suggestions... if anyone has pics of cool side-mirror applications, I'd like to see (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Matt

Do you have a closer shot.... from the shot you have there they might be 911 mirrors

Do a serach on 911 mirrors or Flag Mirrors and see if they match what you had.

I have a pair that I am going to remove from my 914V8 and they will be available, they are not painted, stock black factory finish.

Actually, I was planning on keeping them black, to go with the green / black theme of the car... so I'd definately be interested.

Can you write me an e-mail? (guitarguy_75@yahoo.com) Let me know what you want for them... I'll paypal you. I'm assuming they are in good shape right? No defects?

Also..... this is the closet pic I have, as I do not have the car anymore. Vitaloni sounds familiar.... is that right? Is that what these are?

If I were doing a hot rod 914, I'd also look into the later aero mirror as found on 968, 993, later 964 and 928s. I think these look great on 914s. Then again, I also like Beachboy racing kits too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Oh I agree.... not trying to go "too" wild with the car though.

(As I prepare for the onslaught of comments about my front spoiler--LOL)

Honestly.... I'm just not really into the "classic" look of the originals. In fact, with the exception ofd the bumpers and door handles.... I'm going to nix, or paint black, all the chrome around the top half of the car.

Thanks though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Personally, I think this is a huge mistake. At least don't install any aftermarket mirrors that require drilling extra holes and that can't be reversed. Most I think require drilling.

The Vitaloni Baby Tornados do not require drilling, unless you do not have a mirror on the passenger side. They have a kit that allows the use of the original mirror holes. I HATED mine though. Maybe they were old or something, but they were constantly out of adjustment. They also faded on me pretty bad.

No offense to anyone who likes them or has them, just my $.02 on my experience.

Yes... I had a car with Vitalonis and the wind at speed would bend them back. They were sort of cheaply made.

It would be better to fit some 911 or 944 flag style mirrors. There is one from a newer Mazda Miata or Rx7 that looks pretty cool too!

Hmmm..... interesting.

Granted.. I only owned the car for a few months.... but I drove the hell out of it, and never had a problem with them fading or bending back, etcd.

And yes.. I would need to drill holes on the pass side.

Do I reember reading something once awhile back about there being some kind of nutplate in the passenger door, even if the car was never equipped with a pass side mirror?? Is that right?

I have the Vitaloni Tornado's on my car as well; mine have always held adjustment fine (even at 130mph).

Visibility is a LOT better than the stock mirrors.

Yes, the passenger door is ready to go underneath. You have to drill the holes out of the top of the door panel (insert nail biter smiley), but it's the same pattern as driver's side. There is a tech article on it somewhere. I think the recommendation is to poke something up through the nut plate in order to find out where to drill.

The tech article is on the Pelican site. Possibly elsewhere, too. And yes, it is recommended that you use a punch from the inside to mark where to drill.

The mirrors are indeed Vitaloni Tornado (or Baby Tornado) mirrors. Just like the ones on my car--except the ones in the pictures have been painted body-color. The mirrors are actually black plastic, so you will have to prep and paint them if you install them.

You may not have to drill extra holes, but a lot of people did when installing them. And then used goddamn fucking drywall anchors to hold the screws in. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ar15.gif) Idiots idiots idiots idiots idiots!!! (That's why I have two stock mirrors in my "to install some day" pile, and two Baby Tornados on the car... Grrrrrrr....)

I have never had a problem with the mirrors folding back at speed. Not even at 120 MPH indicated. Perhaps ones that fold back could stand being tightened up? I recall a nut that is accessible through the base plate.

I have my Baby tornados in a box and am still looking for a passenger "original" mirror.
The holes are the same but the base is different so if the paint has been damaged it may have to be buffed. The Baby's have a larger base so buffing would only be if you were putting originals back on.
Do you want to sell the originals? (maybe trade?)
