Some of them. There is a gold plate on the side held on by two screws. You take that plate off and bolt on the choke actuators. Then attach a pull cable to the actuators that you can pull from the cabin.

There are some IDFs that aren't set up for chokes at all. Once you pull off the gold cover, you will either see a completely solid aluminum 'wall' or you'll see two large openings with brass plungers in them. The carbs that have the brass plungers are 'choke-able'.

An even better solution would be to convince Bruce Stone to finish making the hand throttle setups. Those would be easier to install and just as effective.

You should talk to him in this thread.

McMArk,

I'll have to pull the plates and see what I have. Thanks for the info.

I intend to buy this kit and attach it under the dash. In broad strokes my plan is to run the cable either under the gas tank and back in the cockpit in front of the pedal cluster, or inside along the chassis going forward and over the gas pedal. Then it'll attach it to the front of the gas pedal linkage plate on the cluster. A little pull on the near-hidden knob will pull the linkage assembly forward and I should get an increased idle until warm. Viola, instant choke.

Not all pieces will be used. Most likely just the bracket and cable with handle. The rest will come from the hardware store.

Nate, You might find that the choke cable will restrict gas pedal operation. The factory hand throttle was effective because it didn't attach to the gas pedal in any way. It was only an adjustable stopper, and therefore only had any effect/interaction when you foot was off the gas completely.

Good point. Thanks for the head's up.

Back to the drawing board (with hand throttle in mind).

Sorry for the hi-jack.

Not a hi-jack at all, I was thinking of running a cable like you show back to the carbs and find an out of the way place under the dash to mount it.

If the engine needs chokes to fire up when cold, the carbs / engine are not tuned correctly.

I've fired up carbed engines in temps as low as 5F with no issues at all, after 30 seconds or so at steady 2K RPM they'll generally idle by themeslves.

Intakes are short and positioned right over the hottest part of the engine, the cylinder heads..
